Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of fostering independence in early childhood as a key foundation for social, emotional, and academic development in the future. The study aims to analyze the implementation of democratic parenting in shaping the independence of children aged 5-6 years at RA Al-Amalia Tirtayasa. Early childhood is a crucial period where children need balanced guidance between freedom of expression and loving supervision. Democratic parenting, which emphasizes two-way communication and provides space for children to take initiative and responsibility, is considered effective in supporting the development of independence. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, involving parents, children, and teachers as the subjects. The results indicate that democratic parenting significantly increases children's independence in daily activities such as eating, dressing, and making simple decisions. Children raised in this way show good self-confidence, self-control, and positive social skills. Collaboration between parents and teachers also strengthens the development of children's independence. However, the study also found several obstacles, including parents' limited time, and an unsupportive social environment. These challenges need to be addressed for democratic parenting to be applied consistently and effectively. In conclusion, democratic parenting, supported by family involvement and the school environment, plays an important role in shaping the independence of children aged 5-6 years at RA Al-Amalia Tirtayasa.
