Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of cutting activities in improving fine motor skills of children aged 5–6 years. Fine motor skills involve the coordination of small muscles, particularly in the fingers and hands, which play an important role in preparing children for writing and performing daily activities. This research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The subjects were children in Group B PAUD Kenanga . Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that cutting activities were carried out in stages, starting from free cutting, cutting straight lines, to cutting simple patterns. These activities proved effective in improving children’s fine motor skills, as indicated by enhanced grip strength, hand–eye coordination, and cutting accuracy. Supporting factors included the use of safe tools suitable for children’s hand size, patient teacher guidance, and a conducive learning environment. Challenges faced included differences in children’s abilities and a lack of practice at home. In conclusion, the implementation of cutting activities using structured and creative methods can be an effective strategy to optimize fine motor development in early childhood
